Brushing your teeth
Once you get your permanent teeth, they are the only set of teeth you will have for your entire lifetime. If you lose your teeth due to any problem, then you can’t get them back and have to go for expensive and irksome treatments.

A simple thing like proper teeth brushing is a basic part of oral hygiene that is simple and easy to do and can prevent your teeth from decaying. Many people, however, do not know how it should be done. This article tells you how you must brush your teeth the right way, by using proper techniques.

Were you doing it right?
Most people brush their teeth vigorously back and forth, like a saw cutting through a log of wood. The more vigorous the rubbing, the better the brushing is what most people believe.

Were you also brushing your teeth in this way? If your answer is yes, then please note that you have been doing it wrong. When you brush in this way, you are making the gums recede, exposing the root and making your teeth sensitive.

Many people wear their teeth away using the wrong brushing technique. Make sure you follow the right technique so your brushing is soft on the teeth and effective.

How to brush?
The first thing is to have a good toothbrush where the bristles have not bent or broken. Use a toothpaste with fluoride so it can help prevent decay. Wet the toothbrush and apply a small pea-sized quantity of toothpaste and start brushing.

While you are brushing, remember that you need to brush for two minutes for your brushing to be effective. Brushing lesser may not give the desired effect. Brushing for too long will be counter-productive.

The technique
While brushing you need to reach below the gums to remove the plaque. Here’s how you do it:

  • Tilt your brush to a 45-degree angle with the bristles pointing to the gums.
  • Apply pressure gently but firmly and use a circular motion while ensuring the bristles are in contact with the gum.
  • Move up and down for around 15 times, three teeth at a time and then move ahead.
  • Do this for the outer teeth and then move inside. Make sure you hold the brush in such a way that the bristles reach the gum of the inner teeth and repeat the procedure.
  • Make sure you reach out to the molar teeth.
  • Once you are done, brush your tongue also gently to remove bacteria and ensure your breath is fresh.
  • Rinse thoroughly with water and then with mouthwash (optional).

Teeth brushing needs to be done the proper way so that your teeth are in good health and you don’t face problems like decay. Brushing your teeth using the technique mentioned in this article would be helpful.
